2 Dahlgren, John Adolphus Bernard
(1809-1870) Далгрин, Джон Адольфус БернардИзобретатель, военно-морской офицер. Получил прекрасное математическое образование, но с юных лет стремился к службе на флоте. В 1837 получил звание лейтенанта, в 1847 стал офицером службы артиллерийско-технического снабжения в Вашингтонском военно-морском арсенале, где вскоре создал лаборатории, литейную мастерскую и артиллерийский полигон для создания новых видов орудий. Вскоре они появились под названием "пушки Далгрина" [ Dahlgren gun] или "бутылки из-под содовой" ["soda-water bottles"]. В 1851 эти орудия стали устанавливаться на береговых батареях, а с 1857 - на судах. В 1861 Далгрин был назначен начальником Арсенала, а в 1862 начальником Бюро артиллерийско-технического снабжения и получил звание капитана. В 1863 уже в чине контр-адмирала принял участие в ряде сражений Гражданской войны [ Civil War].
